The 7 Best Watches at the SAG Awards, From Jeff Goldblum’s Tiffany to Kumail Nanjiani’s Vacheron

As awards season continues, celebrities have been making some very interesting choices to wear on their wrists as timepieces become an increasingly important part of men’s dressing on the red carpet. At the Golden Globes last month, there was Jeremy Strong in a questionable outfit (he appears to really love the color green this year) but an ultra-covetable and ultra-high-end Richard Mille RM 72-01 and Jeff Goldblum in a stunning Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle Moonphase in snow-set diamonds. For the 31st Screen Actors Guild awards last night, there was everything from sporty Omegas, such as Kieran Culkin’s Seamster Aqua Terra and tiny timekeepers like Jeff Goldblum’s 21 by 34 mm Tiffany & Co. Cocktail watch to Kumail Nanjiani’s extraordinary and complicated Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle Tourbillon Chronograph Collection Excellence Platine and Drew Starkey’s hard-to-get Cartier Privé Tortue. It’s shaping up to be an interesting red-carpet season and the SAG Awards are just a taste of what’s to come with the Oscars looming next month.

Kumail Nanjiani was arguably one of the best-dressed men of the evening in an impeccable Emporio Armani shawl collar tux that subtly nipped his waist. We’re glad he chose an equally stellar timepiece to top off the sophisticated look. On his wrist he wore a Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle Tourbillon Chronograph Collection Excellence Platine—a timepiece that combines a single-push chronograph movement and a tourbillon which are some of the most challenging complications in watchmaking to make. It comes in a 950 platinum case that is limited to just 50 pieces worldwide.

Always effortlessly cool, Goldblum knows better than anyone how to look classy while also delivering a does of edge. His suit was a classic looking tux worn with a splash of color on his mint green scarf, but it was his tiny Tiffany timekeeper that really drew in the eye. Men have been rocking smaller watches in general and celebrities have really emphasized the trend by going even smaller with downright ultra-small watches that are, in some cases, straight-up women’s timepieces. Goldblum’s timepiece is 21 by 34 mm in 18-karat gold, set with round brilliant diamonds of varyin sizes around the bezel. He complimented it with a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. Vrille Flower brooch in 18-karat yellow gold and platinum set with spessartines and diamonds.

Drew Starkey’s Cartier Privé Edition Tortue

At first glance, you might think Drew Starkey (known for Outer Banks and recently, Queer which stars Daniel Craig) came dressed in his prep school attire. But upon closer inspection what appeared to be a navy jacket, light blue shirt, red tie, and khaki pants was much more nuanced. His Valentino look was actually a double-breasted jacket worn with slightly flared and cuffed cream pants and a polka dotted red silk tie scarf worn around the collar like a tie. Like his Cartier Tourtue watch—known for its curved case shape like a turtle shell (tourtue means turtle in French)—it’s a pure classic with a twist. This $31,000 timepiece is part of Cartier’s ultra-exclusive Privé line, which is typically reserved for VIP collectors and therefore not available online. So, if you want one it might be time to start establishing your spend with the Parisian house.

Omega dresses a slew of celebrities during awards season, but it’s fun to see how its celebrities choose pieces that reflect their style. Coleman Domingo is known, not just for his acting chops but also his ultra-cool sense of style. He chose a 41 mm Omega De Ville Prestige with a domed silvery dial with a stamped pattern in a sun-brushed finish to accent his dapper Valentino look. Most men might gravitate to Omega’s more hyped sports models, but Domingo’s choice of a dressier model perfectly lines up with his edgier, more elegant taste.

Tommy Bastow, known recently for playing Father Martin Alvito in Shogun, opted for a panda dial Omega Speedmaster accented in diamonds around the bezel and around its subdials. His rugged masculine look combined with a velvet tuxedo jacket were perfectly reflected in the ultra-masculine chronograph Speedmaster dressed up in diamonds.

Kieran Culkin loves a red dial. It’s the second time during awards season that he has chosen a red dial Omega watch. At the Golden Globes he wore a Seamaster Aqua Terra Shades in what the Swiss watchmaker describes as a Terracotta dial. That piece was entirely in steel. For the SAG Awards, he chose a two-tone Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M in steel and the brand’s proprietary Moonshine gold. Red dial watches certainly aren’t the obvious choice, but Culkin has always been loveably outside-of-the-box.

Bridgerton star Luke Newton kept it simple with an understated TAG Heuer Carrera to accompany his all-black Dolce & Gabbana suit which he wore with hist shirt buttoned down and a scarf (an ongoing menswear trend of the evening). His 39mm Carrera in steel with a silver dial was a good choice for his look—sleek and sexy.
