Singer Zac Brown’s vacation house on the shore of Georgia’s Lake Lanier, which came to market last week with a $3.2 million price tag, sits on about an acre of land with 150 feet of waterfront views. However, if land and equestrian facilities are what you’re after in the Peach State, a 62-acre compound over in Watkinsville might be the answer.
Dubbed Elder Mill Farm, the sprawling countryside estate sits about 70 miles east of downtown Atlanta and is named after the late 19th-century Elder Mill Covered Bridge over nearby Calls Creek. The purchase of a 40-acre parcel to build a dream home was completed in 2008, with another 22 acres being added by 2011. Meticulously constructed and completed in 2016, the property now comprises a main house and a guest cottage created by Harrison Design and a horse barn by Eddie Mock of Pro Building Systems.

Four bedrooms and bathrooms are spread across the main residence’s 8,900 square feet. White oak hardwood flooring is one of its key features, which trails from the entrance into the vast great room, which is set under a vaulted ceiling with reclaimed wood beams. At one end of the room is a lounge with a fireplace, and at the other, a gourmet kitchen with duo-tone cabinetry, a snack-bar island, and both black and white stone counters. French doors open to a covered patio with an outdoor fireplace.
