These Are the 6 Luckiest Tarot Cards, According to a Tarot Reader
In recent years, more people have been exposed to tarot reading and tarot cards thanks to the internet. And with that new discovery, there are a lot more people beginning to dabble in tarot and use the cards to help them navigate life a little better. And if you’re hoping to have a little more luck in the new year, you might be asking, “What are the luckiest tarot cards?” Well, luckily (pun intended), tarot expert Theresa Reed has plenty of insights to share with Parade.
While tarot has been stereotypically thought of as a fortune-telling practice, you can actually use tarot to get some more insight into your current situation and ask for help moving forward. A common way to use tarot cards is to “ask the cards” about a scenario—your current love life, a future job you’re applying for, starting a business, etc. You or a tarot reader will then lay the cards out in a spread and interpret what the random cards you pulled mean. And based on what you pulled, the cards could spell out a lucky scenario going forward.
You, of course, can’t choose which cards are pulled in a tarot reading. But if you get any of the six cards below, luck may very well be on your side. Here's why.

6 Lucky Tarot Cards, According to a Tarot Reader
1. Wheel of Fortune
The first tarot card that comes to mind for Reed—who has more than 40 years of experience reading tarot and astrological charts—when she thinks of luck is the Wheel of Fortune card.
“And what is the Wheel of Fortune all about? Well, it is about opportunity knocking,” she shares. “And what is that opportunity? Is it a good opportunity? Luck is a weird thing, but the Wheel of Fortune to me is always, always the first thing that comes to mind.”
2. Nine of Cups
The next card that Reed associates with luck or something finally coming true is the Nine of Cups.
“When the Nine of Cups comes up it's like, ‘Oh my god, you're getting a wish fulfilled,’” Reed reveals.
But what exactly does the Nine of Cups represent? (Especially when the next card on our list is also a cup.)
“If you look at [the Nine of Cups], the figure sitting there, they're comfortable,” Reed explains. “They already got what they wanted.”
3. Seven of Cups
While the Nine of Cups is a comfortable figure with a wish already fulfilled, the Seven of Cups is still on the path to something.
“The Seven of Cups, they are in the position where they're manifesting something,” Reed tells Parade. “So they're right in the middle. They're looking at it. They're seeing the possibilities.”
She explains that the figure on this card is “seeing the opportunities” and while she still tends “to see that as a wish being fulfilled,” it hasn’t quite happened yet.
“It’s somebody who's exploring all kinds of options,” she says. “Whereas the other guy [Nine of Cups] already got it. So, it's more like the wishes are on their way.”
4. The Star
The Star is the next tarot that Reed thinks of in terms of “luck.” Generally, this card is about hope and a renewal of power or strength to continue forward with your endeavors.
“Now, if somebody gets all three of those [Nine of Cups, Seven of Cups and The Star] in a reading, that is like the trifecta of manifesting a dream, a goal or a wish,” Reed says.
Again, while you can’t have a spread about luck—or how to manifest a good outcome—and choose these three on purpose, if the cards choose them for you, you’re one lucky person.
5 & 6. King of Pentacles or Queen of Pentacles
Two other cards that Reed brings up when we talk about luck are the King of Pentacles and the Queen of Pentacles.
“Those are the cards that are called the King and Queen Midas,” Reed explains. “So if they show up, it's basically what you touch will turn to gold. So that's also a really, really good omen.”
In addition to these two, Reed also mentions that she’ll sometimes see the Ace of Pentacles card “as an auspicious offer.” Generally, the Ace of Pentacles represents a new beginning or a new opportunity is coming.
“I mean, any Ace for that matter can be an auspicious offer,” she shares. “But those are some of the cards that I automatically associate with luck.”

How To Use Tarot for Luck
Again, these are cards you can keep an eye out for when you’re in a tarot reading or pulling cards for yourself. However, as Reed tells Parade, tarot isn’t the end all, be all. And you can’t manipulate fate.
“I'm going to say this, when it comes to fate, I'm one of those people who believe some things do happen that you don't have any control over,” she says. However, she also believes “there are a lot of things that happen because of the decisions that we make.”
Reed is really big on “creating” your own luck and finding ways to make the best decisions with the best outcomes.
“A lot of times, we do create our own luck and tarot can show whether the decisions you're making are really pushing you towards a lucky outcome,” she explains. “We have free will [and] we can always change things if we don't like the way it looks, if it looks like, ‘Oh my God, you're moving in an unlucky direction.’”
If a tarot reading tells you that, then Reed shares that it’s time to think about how to reroute and re-evaluate.
“Maybe it's time to think, ‘What can I do to change this and stack the odds in my favor?’” she says. “And you can use tarot to find out the best way to do that.”
