The 6 greatest Simpsons football moments ever, including the classic Broncos joke
Besides The Simpsons predicting, well, pretty much everything, the all-time legendary animated series has done some incredible things in the sports realm, from funny jokes to entire episodes.
And with the family in Springfield taking part in a Monday Night Football streaming alternate broadcast, we decided it was a good time to rank some of their all-time greatest football moments, including a classic joke from the end of a top-10 episode that turned out to age badly.
So, here you go: six of the greatest NFL and beyond moments in The Simpsons, and maybe we'll add to this list after Monday's alternate broadcast:
6. Too many jokes to mention: Sunday, Cruddy Sunday (Season 10, Episode 12)
So many guest stars from John Madden to Dan Marino to Try Aikman to Dolly Parton, and the whole premise is about the Super Bowl.
5. "You're cut.": Bart Star (Season 9, Episode 6)
Mostly funny because of the ending credits, in which everyone gets cut, including the Gracie Films shusher.
4. An XFL joke: The Old Man and the Key (Season 13, Episode 13)
Too good.
3. Homer calls a betting hotline: Lisa the Greek (Season 3, Episode 14)
It's hard to pick one thing from this football-centric episode about Lisa turning into an incredible football bettor, but this never fails to make me laugh: Homer calling the betting hotline that costs money per minute, so the message comes through sloooowwwlly.
2. Man Getting Hit By Football: A Star is Burns (Season 6, Episode 12
A football is involved. It counts.
1. "The Denver Broncos?!": You Only Move Twice (Season 8, Episode 2)
Just a perfect setup, punchline and final line to Marge, punctuated by a Bronco getting hit in the helmet by a football.
