After 45 Years, Demi Moore Just Won Her First Major Award For Acting, And Her Speech Moved People To Tears
Tonight, the 2025 Golden Globe Awards took place. The annual award show celebrates the very best in both TV and film from the past year.
From Shōgun to Wicked last year was big for TV and movies, and the Golden Globes marks the first big award show of this awards season.
Over the course of the night, several people won their first Golden Globes, like Zoe Saldaña for her work in Emilia Pérez, Sebastian Stan for his work in A Different Man, and more.

And another one of the first-time winners from tonight's Golden Globes was Demi Moore, who won for her incredible work as Elisabeth Sparkle in The Substance.
Her win for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy marked her first Golden Globes win, and even her first major award show win EVER.
Demi was shocked when her name was called and emotionally made her way up to the stage and delivered one of the best acceptance speeches of the evening.
"I really wasn't expecting that," Demi said after arriving on stage. She continued, "I'm just in shock right now. I've been doing this a long time, like, over 45 years, and this is the first time I've ever won anything as an actor, and I'm just so humbled and so grateful."
Then, Demi launched into a speech that touched on how much life she's lived in Hollywood and how much she's overcome to get to The Substance.
"Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a 'popcorn actress,' and at that time, I made that mean that this wasn't something I was allowed to have. That I could do movies that were successful that made a lot of money, but I couldn't be acknowledged, and I bought in, and I believed that," Demi said while visibly choking up on stage.
She continued, saying, "And that corroded me over time to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it. Maybe I was complete. Maybe I've done what I'm supposed to do. And when I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance."

"The universe told me that 'You're not done.' And I'm so grateful to Coralie [Fargeat, director and writer] for trusting me to step in and play this woman. For Margaret [Qualley] for being the other half of me that I couldn't have done without for looking out for me."
Then, Demi thanked her team, many of whom have been by her side for 30+ years and have stood by her all of this time, even when she didn't believe in herself.
She ended her speech with a beautiful sentiment that moved the entire crowd in the room to a long applause even after she left the stage.
Referencing the pivotal moment in The Substance when Elisabeth takes off her makeup, Demi said, "In those moments when we don't think we are smart enough or pretty enough or skinny enough or successful enough or basically just not enough, I had a woman say to me, 'Just know you will never be enough, but you can know the value of your worth if you just put down the measuring stick.'"
"And so today, I celebrate this as a marker of my wholeness and of the love that is driving me and for the gift of doing something I love, and being reminded that I do belong."
Following Demi's speech, people in the room were visibly moved to tears, and she even got a standing ovation as she left the stage.
All I have to say is I am so happy for Demi Moore, especially as a young girl who watched Ghost and St. Elmo's Fire on repeat growing up because I just loved movies so much.
