Before the Oscars red carpet rolls out, all eyes are on the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards, whose winners during Sunday night's ceremony often set the tone for the rest of awards season.

With influential industry guild groups like the DGA and PGA — both of which share crossover membership with the Academy's voting base — lighting a fire underneath Anora's campaign with huge victories in recent days, the British Academy (which also shares voters with the Oscars' Academy) continued the film's late-breaking streak with a Best Actress award for star Mikey Madison. The ceremony also turned the tide for Conclave, a co-production made with funding from both the United States and the United Kingdom, with Best Film, Outstanding British Film, and Best Adapted Screenplay awards.

Directed by Edward Berger — who was shockingly snubbed by the Oscars in the Best Director category — Conclave led the 2025 BAFTA Awards nominations in January, pulling in 12 overall nods, followed closely by Emilia Pérez with 11.

Other notable winners among the BAFTA recipients include Emilia Pérez Best Supporting Actress Zoe Saldaña, Best Actor Adrien Brody for The Brutalist, A Real Pain's Best Supporting Actor Kieran Culkin and Best Original Screenplay winner Jesse Eisenberg, Best Director Brady Corbet for The Brutalist, and Emilia Pérez for Best Film Not in the English Language.

BAFTA and the Oscars' Academy share a number of voting members, with the groups typically sharing many nominees and eventual winners each season. Across the last decade, while only two of BAFTA's Best Film winners went on to win the Academy Award for Best Picture (Oppenheimer and Nomadland), all 10 of its Best Film winners across the same period earned at least a Best Picture nomination at the Oscars — as is the case with all five Best Film nominees this year.
