19 Questions People Are Asking About The "Harry Potter" Universe Ahead Of The Upcoming Remake

Whatever our feelings about it, a new Harry Potter series is coming to HBO, and it's spurring a lot of conversation — and churning up many peoples' old questions about the series' plot.

So, I asked Harry Potter fans of the BuzzFeed Community to share their biggest unanswered questions from the Harry Potter universe. Here they are:

1."Why didn’t Voldemort just kill Harry without his wand..? It’s not that hard, he was a baby!"

2."Why didn't Harry lie to Dobby in the second movie when Dobby told him to promise he wouldn't go back to Hogwarts?"

4."Do the students at Hogwarts ever learn basic school skills like reading, composition, grammar, math, or health? I know Care of Magical Creatures is a cool class, but what about SPELLING?"

5."How did the Weasley twins learn how to access the Marauders' Map?"

6."My question is: What happened to Harry's grandparents? On his mom AND his dad's side?"

7."Crookshanks. Was he part Kneazle, and also the same cat that had been owned by Lily and James? He would have recognized Sirius and Peter, and he would have known who the traitor was."

8."You know how Voldemort gave Peter his hand back, however he did it? ...Why didn't they just do that for Moody's leg?"

9."What did Dudley see during the dementor attack?"

10."Why couldn’t Harry see thestrals before Cedric’s death if he had seen his parents die?"

"If I recall correctly, thestrals are only visible to those who have seen death and understand and accept the meaning or reality of it. Harry was too young to understand what death means.

That begs the question of why Harry didn't see the threstrals when he got to Hogwarts, as by then, he had accepted the death of his parents? Also, he witnessed the death of Professor Quirrell in book one, and knew the finality of death."

11."In the Deathly Hallows, I want to know why Voldemort takes Narcissa’s word that Harry’s dead. If I were Voldemort and had spent so much of my life connected to and obsessing over and wanting to kill Harry, I’d sure as hell verify his death myself."

14."What does Moody see when he uses his magical eye to look at the boggart in the cupboard at Grimmauld Place in The Order of the Phoenix?"

"It is a well-known fact that no one knows what boggart looks like in its true form, since it transforms as soon as it sees someone into their greatest fear. But when Molly Weasley asks Moody to see what is hiding in the cupboard he looks at it without confronting it and says it is a boggart.

The boggart doesn’t know anyone is looking at it, so presumably, it is in its true form at that moment. So what does it look like? Is Moody the only person who knows the boggart’s true form? And why does no one there at the order headquarters realize and ask him what he sees?

Harry was sitting right there when he looked. He has quite a history with boggarts, and Lupin literally taught the course on boggarts, but it doesn’t cross their minds to ask Moody?"

15."I swear that I remember reading in one of the books, probably Order of the Phoenix, that Molly and Arthur Weasley weren’t in the original Order of the Phoenix because they were too young."

16."Where did the veil in the Department of Mysteries come from??"

17."I want to know what happens after the third Fantastic Beasts film. The series, which was originally intended to be told over the course of five films, has been cut short with no active plans to continue production with a fourth film due to issues with low ratings, controversies among the lead actors (Johnny Depp and Ezra Miller to be specific), and fan concerns with J.K. Rowling’s transphobia."

"It’s quite upsetting we likely will not see another Fantastic Beasts movie, as I and many other fans have been enthralled by the franchise and fallen in love with the characters. I would hope Rowling would at least publish the intended scripts for the scrapped films so we can see the story resolved and have our questions answered."

18."In book three, Prisoner of Azkaban, how and why does Mrs. Norris (Filch's cat) appear on the Marauder's Map, but no other pets do?"

"Why does Peeves appear on the map but no other ghosts/entities do?

If the map never lies (it always shows someone's true identity) then why did Harry never see Sirius Black on the map when he was in his animagus form? How did Peter Pettigrew remain hidden during the years the Weasley twins had the map? AND how did the Weasley twins figure out how to use the map after they stole it?"

19.Finally: "My unanswered question is, 'Who asked for a Harry Potter remake in 2024?'"
