There's a certain charm to the nostalgic whistle of a stovetop kettle, but with the constant cacophony of noise from my littles, I'd rather get my boiling water without the fanfare.

For that reason alone, an electric kettle is one of the best kitchen purchases I've ever made. I've owned an electric kettle for a long time, but ALDI's Ambiano Electric Glass Kettle is a looker. At just $18.99, it looks suspiciously similar to a stylish $100 Breville model, so, of course, I had to pick it up!

What I Love About ALDI's Ambiano Electric Glass Kettle

The kettle is highly functional, and its sleek design looks fantastic on my countertop. The fact that it's a fraction of the price of its high-end counterpart is just icing on the cake.

It has a 360-degree power base with cord storage, allowing me to lift it on and off the surface when I need to use it. The kettle is made from borosilicate glass, so it won't crack with extreme temperature changes. It has a 1.7-liter water capacity and a lid that securely stays in place when I'm pouring, which could not be said about my stovetop kettle. Ouch!

It also features auto shut-off and boil-dry protection—handy when I forget that I've turned it on or need to add more water—and an indicator light that signals when it's in use.

Why Everyone Should Own an Electric Kettle

I initially thought I'd only use my electric kettle to make tea, but I quickly realized how much I came to rely on it for a multitude of other kitchen tasks. If you haven't made the leap to an electric kettle, let this be your sign. It isn't just a luxury item; it's a kitchen essential.

It's incredibly convenient, heating water to a full boil in two to four minutes—far faster than my old stovetop kettle ever could. As a result, it's become my go-to for a variety of kitchen tasks. Of course, I use it for regular cups of tea, hot lemon water, and matcha, but it's also a great help for speeding up dinner prep.

It makes quick and easy work of tasks like making couscous; rehydrating ramen or rice noodles, dried mushrooms, or chilies for my favorite Asian- and Mexican-inspired dishes; and softening dates for energy balls, smoothies, or skillet cookies.

It's also been helpful for on-the-go drinks. When the cold weather hits, I love filling a large, portable thermos with hot water and pouring it into everybody's travel mugs to make "made-to-order" instant coffee, tea, or hot chocolate after crisp fall hikes or a big day of sledding.

It's also decidedly handy when it comes to cleaning. I use it to heat water to tackle really sticky or tough messes and to make a quick-dissolve cleaning solution by boiling water and adding powdered Tide (a genius hack, by the way). I pour it directly down the kitchen and bathroom drains after a run of baking soda and vinegar, and I've even used it in the past to sterilize baby items.

With its modern design and budget-friendly price, it's easy to see why this kettle is a must-have. For anyone looking to save time and add a touch of modern convenience to their kitchen, this $18.99 ALDI find is a no-brainer. Plus, it doesn't hurt that it's a near-perfect dupe for a much pricier model.
