Cricketer Chris Gayle has outraged fans after a shocking interview with Channel 10 reporter Mel McLaughlin.

Following last night’s match in Melbourne, the controversial West Indies captain used his airtime to blatantly flirt with McLaughlin, leaving her visibly distressed.

“I wanted to have an interview with you as well, that’s why I’m here,” Gayle said on live TV.

“I get to see your eyes for the first time, it’s nice. Hopefully we can win and go for a drink after.

“Don’t blush baby.”

“I’m not blushing,” McLaughlin replied, before moving on to her next question.

Jackie Frank, publisher of the health and fashion titles at Pacific Magazines, described the interview as a disgrace.

“It’s another disappointing example of gender inequality and it’s completely inappropriate and disrespectful,” said Frank. “Just because she’s a female doesn’t mean she’s a sex object!

"She handled the whole thing like a complete professional, but his behaviour should not be tolerated.

"There’s nothing wrong with flirting but it was so obvious she was uncomfortable.”

Cricket Australia agreed with Frank - BBL boss Anthony Everard slammed Gayle’s comments as “disrespectful and simply inappropriate”.

“Gayle and his side will be spoken to by officials,” said Everard. “This league is all about its appeal to kids, families and females.

“There’s just no place in the BBL - or, for that matter, cricket anywhere - for that sort of behaviour.”
