Jack Vidgen: I Hope to Win a Grammy
Jack Vidgen, winner of Australia's Got Talent 2011
He won Australia’s Got Talent less than 24 hours ago, but 14-year-old Jack Vidgen is already on his way towards fulfilling his dreams of global stardom, with the release of his song 'Yes I Am' on iTunes this morning.
“I’m feeling incredible, it’s an amazing feeling to have won and I’m just so lucky to be here,” Jack tells WHO on “just a couple” hours sleep following last night’s finale, which saw him pip Melbourne illusionist Cosentino to the $250,000 prize.
“It means everything — I never thought that I would win. I went into the audition stage hoping I would get through,” adds Jack, who blew judges Dannii Minogue, Brian McFadden and Kyle Sandilands away during auditions with his rendition of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Have Nothing'. “Now all this has happened. I feel so grateful and blessed.”
While the talented Sydneysider admits he was “more nervous than I’ve ever been” last night, criticism for his claims that last week’s performance song ‘Yes I Am’ is an original — he’s since clarified it was co-written with his voice coach, Erana Clarke — had no baring on his finale performance. “I wouldn’t let that stop me at all, and I know this sort of stuff happens and it’s a good experience to go through,” says Jack, who plans to invest some of his prize money as well as take a family holiday to the Bahamas, buy a car for his mum and make a donation to his preferred charity, Youth On The Streets.
Having scored a record deal with Sony — his debut album is due for release on August 19 — Jack has withdrawn from his high school to continue grade nine by distance education, with him due in the studio within the next two days — bringing him one step closer to his dream of standing on the Grammy stage beside Beyoncé: “Until I get there, its not going to change!”
