Candice Alley Speaks Out: My New Life

Candice Alley will spend Mother’s Day with her two-year-old twins Charlize and Jagger as a celebration “of the three of us,” in the wake of her split from husband Grant Hackett.

In an exclusive interview with WHO, Alley, 29, reveals she is focusing on her children since the breakdown of her marriage to former swimming champ Hackett.

“I will celebrate [Mother’s Day] with myself because they have made it this far and are happy and healthy kids,” Alley tells WHO.

“I feel like I have achieved a lot.”

On May 3, Alley confirmed she had “unfortunately” separated from her husband of five years, and was going through “a very stressful time”.

In his own statement the same day, Hackett, 31, said: “I want to be dignified in my approach to everything and ensure the children’s needs are paramount and put first.”

“I wish Candice every success. It is my hope that everybody can respect the process and be kind to all parties involved as it is a very difficult time.”

The split came six months after Hackett allegedly smashed a baby-grand piano at the couple's multimillion-dollar Melbourne apartment on October 29 after they had attended a Derby Day function together.

Police were called to the couple's penthouse after midnight to attend a domestic dispute, amid reports of screaming and smashing of furniture.

At the time, Hackett told the Nine Network Alley and the twins were “100 per cent OK”.

He and his wife had, he said, “a few private issues we needed to deal with and we have dealt with those. Our relationship is great.”

At the Logies on April 15, TV footage showed Hackett struggling to form a sentence and, as has been reported, when he returned home, he was kicked out by Alley.

The pair split shortly after, and Charlize and Jagger have been living with their mother since.

Alley, a professional singer whose debut single "Falling" was nominated for a 2003 Aria award, says she has plans to get into acting, write chidlren's books and is looking forward to the future.

“The kids are such good little people,” she tells WHO. “I feel so lucky I have them to wake up to. They are the best things I'll ever do with my life."
