Wear green for premmies

After giving birth to her son Ronan at just 27 weeks in 2006, Victoria mum Julia Toivonen was inspired to start an online support network where parents of premature babies could share their experiences, and so L'il Aussie Prems was born. Five years on, the site has close to 2000 members, and their active forums offer a lifeline to those whose babies have been born too soon.

To raise awareness of the challenges faced by babies who are born prematurely, L'il Aussie Prems is running a Facebook event, 'Wear Green for Premmies' on Wednesday April 4 2012.

The event raises funds via the sale of green wristbands on the L'il Aussie Prems website, and these funds are distributed amongst charities that support children throughout Australia, including the National Premmie Foundation.

Last year's event attracted more than 19,600 attendees, and raised funds for five different children's charities.
