The reality TV star said in a statement: “I hope everyone understands this was not an easy decision.

"I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends and wish each other the best."

Rumours had circulated that the couple’s marriage was struggling and confirmation of the divorce came from Ryan Seacrest, who produces Kim’s reality show.

Seacrest tweeted: “Yes @kimkardashian is filing for divorce this morning.”

He later commented on the split on his radio show, saying: “I've spoken to her briefly and she says she's sad and got caught up in all that was going on.”

Divorce papers were filed in Los Angeles yesterday.

Kardashian has cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ and said in the papers the couple had a pre-nuptial agreement and she does not want to pay spousal support.

Since marrying, Kardashian and Humphries have been living in New York City with her sister Kourtney, her boyfriend Scott Disick and their son. She told People the situation was ‘not ideal’ for newlyweds.
