Gisele Bundchen has slammed today's beauty standards, referring to them as "unattainable".

The 34-year old supermodel, who recently appeared in a glamorous advert for Chanel No. 5, told Sunday Times Style magazine that while most ad campaigns are aspirational, she believes they're also a distant reality for most women.

"They are so glamorous and so unattainable and so aspirational that you really can't touch them, in a way," Bundchen explained. "They are kind of a dream."

Critics have since questioned Bundchen's comments, but the supermodel says her recent ad campaign for Chanel No.5 is different.

"The idea really was to show this modern woman and all that she is, with her struggles and her vulnerability," Bundchen said of her surfer girl persona in the ads. "And yes, she is glamorous. Of course she's glamorous - she is powerful and successful - but she is also struggling. You know she is a mother, a wife and a professional, and she is juggling all of that, and you know that's not easy."
