Karl Lagerfeld Calls Facebook 'A Flawless Object'

Despite the fact that Karl Lagerfeld "rarely uses technology", he's apparently an avid fan of Facebook.

Chanel's creative director likened the social media website to "a Brancusi" in a recent interview with The Luxury Channel, calling it "a flawless object". And although he admits that his staff control most of the technology side of the business, Lagerfeld also said he realises the importance of staying current in the fashion industry.

With Tom Ford openly stating last week that he believes the immediacy of the internet ruins the anticipation of a new collection, Lagerfeld appears to have the opposite opinion, arguing that copies of up-market items aren't capable of achieving the same luxury status as a genuine item.

"Expensive things of high quality are exclusive by the price. So the copies - it's not good to make copies, perhaps. But if you touch it, if you are used to luxury, if you are used to buying couture or even expensive ready-to-wear, all this is unnecessary to say because the quality makes it that. Luxury is luxury, and copies are not luxuries, so it's completely different."

It seems Lagerfeld has an opinion on a few things this week - he also commented on Kate Middleton's engagement to Prince William, telling style.com, "For the royals, apparently the royal blood is not in demand any longer."

However, he conceded that this is not necessarily a bad thing.

"Better for the generation to come. She is very different from Princess Diana, and seems very well balanced and a happy person. She is chic in a way the position needs. Let's wait and see."
