MBFWA 2013 Designer Interview: camilla and marc

What’s the inspiration behind your spring/summer collection?
This collection is an ode to our last ten years, told from our present perspective. We drew inspiration from the Russian Matryoshka doll – particularly the layers, which also allude to and come to symbolize the label’s layered past. The collection embodies the essence of the camilla and marc brand and how it will continue to evolve in the future.

What sort of prints and textures are featured in your upcoming range?
Concentric Paradigm’s statement print is one of abstraction; we injected white, acid blue and aqua onto a base of pale blue. This season we feature a bold and graphic jacquard, wadded stretch leather and embossed snakeskin leather, techno scuba and both printed, wadded satin textures and a rich in texture gold jacquard.
In your opinion, what are some of the big trends we can expect to see on the catwalk at MBFW?
Oversized tailoring, prints in all different forms, more flats and less heels.
What’s your favourite fashion week memory?
The first time we opened Fashion Week and showed from the Sydney Dance Company with an incredibly long catwalk. As the lovely morning sun shone through the windows and intensity of the music playing, it felt rather dramatic.
What are you most looking forward to at fashion week this year?
Marking the start of our 10-year anniversary celebrations by opening this year’s fashion week!
What will you be doing after fashion week wraps?
Spending time with family, particularly my girls and husband in the countryside.
