Victoria Beckham unveils 'Harper' handbag

The fashion designer tweeted a photograph of three of the Harper bags in the lead-up to her catwalk show at New York Public Library.

The Harper bag is mid-sized and made from leather, with two front pockets, and will be available from August.

Little Harper Beckham is perhaps the youngest in an exclusive club of handbag muses. English actress and singer Jane Birkin is the namesake of the famous Birkin bag by Hermes, while style icon Grace Kelly was the inspiration for the Hermes Kelly bag.

Models carried the Harper bag on the catwalk at Beckham’s New York Fashion Week show, which saw military and sporting influences dominate the collection, as well as an emphasis on a strong silhouette.

The famous fashionista told reporters backstage that her latest collection was inspired by her family. Her husband, footballer David Beckham, sat in the front row at her show for the first time ever – in the past he has been banned in case his presence took the spotlight off his wife’s hard work.

As a fashion designer, the former Spice Girl is going from strength to strength. Fashion pundits are calling this her strongest show yet, while last year Beckham’s fashion line was named Brand of the Year by the British Fashion Council.

Beckham is fast becoming a red carpet favourite among celebs. Rumours are circulating that the mother-of-four will dress Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron and Cameron Diaz at the Oscars, to be held later this month.

At the 2012 BAFTAS, held at the weekend in London, Melissa George shone in a sequined, wet-look Victoria Beckham gown.
