Kunis the new face of Dior

Mila Kunis has been the latest of celebrity A-listers to join fashion house Dior.

The 28-year-old was announced as the new face of Christian Dior, as well as the front of the Spring/Summer 2012 Miss Dior handbag collection advertising campaign, appearing worldwide this month.

"I am absolutely thrilled to be working with Dior. The brand is iconic in so many ways. It defines fashion, elegance and sophistication," Kunis said in a statement.

Dior’s deputy general manager Delphine Arnault, confirmed that the sentiment was mutual.

“Mila Kunis is a very talented young actress; she embodies the true modern woman,” Arnault said.

Arnault also commended Kunis’ performance in the 2010 film Black Swan as “remarkable”, and described Kunis as “very gifted”.

Kunis’ Black Swan co-star Natalie Portman was hailed as Dior’s latest success, having headed the Miss Dior Cherie fragrance campaign since early 2011.

But Dior found itself in the spotlight early last year after head designer at the time, John Galliano, was caught on video saying anti-Semitic remarks to people in a Paris café.

Portman, who said she was “an individual who is proud to be Jewish” expressed her disgust for Galliano, saying, “I will not be associated with Mr Galliano in any way.” Dior soon announced Galliano had been fired amidst the controversy.

Along with Portman, Kunis joins other Oscar winners Charlize Theron and Marion Cotillard at Dior - the faces of J’Adore Dior fragrance and Lady Dior handbags respectively,

Arnault said that the brand’s decision to look to Hollywood stars to front their campaigns stemmed from its history.

Original head designer Christian Dior created costumes for the movies and maintained personal relationships with actresses like Marline Dietrich, Rita Hayworth, Liz Taylor, Ava Gardner, Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe and Grace Kelly.

Kunis’ campaign will be launched in China later this month, and appear in US titles from the end of January.
