Pioneer supermodel Twiggy has been named as the new face of beauty brand L’Oréal Professionnel.

Twiggy is about to be back in the spotlight in a big way—almost 50 years after she burst on the scene at age 16. At that time, the young British model known as Lesley Lawson walked into London’s House of Leonard salon and swapped her longer brunette locks for a blonde side-swept pixie cut. The new look made her an overnight sensation, known as Twiggy. With her teeny frame, short crop, doe eyes and amazing lashes, she became the cool face of mod 1960s style, shooting covers for Elle and Vogue within months. Since then, Twiggy has been busy acting, singing, and even designing for Marks & Spencer in London.

Now at age 65, Twiggy is the newest UK brand ambassador for L’Oréal Professionnel, working to highlight the brand’s new blonde formula, Majirel High Lift. The partnership reunited Twiggy with hairdresser Daniel Galvin who originally dyed her hair blonde. “I totally transformed her look into that stunning and remarkable blonde urchin, which led to her launch as the world’s very first supermodel,” Galvin says. “The Twiggy brickwork colouring technique has taken me to every corner of the globe, educating hairdressers on how to create natural blondes.”

The new campaign follows in the footsteps of another UK ambassador for L’Oréal, Helen Mirren, who was tapped last fall at age 69. But Mirren and Twiggy aren’t the only over-50 stars landing beauty contracts. At age 68, Charlotte Rampling was the face of NARS, Jessica Lange landed a Marc Jacobs Beauty campaign at age 65, and Lauren Hutton was posing for J. Crew at age 71. Will Twiggy be the face of her generation again? Now that 60 is the new 20—it’s a possibility.
