'Yellowstone' Star Luke Grimes Opens Up about "Profound" Final Season
After two long years, Yellowstone fans can finally resume their beloved Sunday routine. Season 5B is set to premiere on Sunday, November 10, at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount Network. In celebration of the highly-anticipated television event, Country Living sat down with Luke Grimes (Kayce Dutton), Kelsey Asbille (Monica Long), and Wes Bentley (Jamie Dutton) for a chat. The first order of business? A straightforward question to set the tone.

“If you could describe Yellowstone Season 5B in one word, what would it be,” we asked the actors.
“Boom,” Luke Grimes and Kelsey Asbille looked at each other, laughed, and answered in agreement. Wes Bentley took a beat to respond, looking for the perfect word, eventually landing on two. “Tipping point,” he said with confidence.
As you may recall, Yellowstone Season 5 Part 1 aired eight episodes that left just about everything up in the air. Kayce and Monica lost their unborn son when Monica and Tate got into a car crash at the beginning of the season, Beth learned that Jamie had a child and threatened to take him from him, Jamie tried to run her over in retaliation, the Yellowstone herd is dwindling due to a brucellosis outbreak (forcing the ranchers to salvage the cattle and head to Texas for a year while it clears up), Jamie teamed up with Market Equities lawyer Sarah Atwood to take down the Duttons, eventually leading to John’s impeachment during the midseason finale, and Beth learned about the train station, prompting her to tell John that’s where Jamie belongs. Woof!
With so much drama and deceit afoot, it’s hard to say what will come of Yellowstone Season 5B—especially since Kevin Costner revealed earlier this year that he won’t be making any appearances in the show. (We’re not entirely convinced that that’s going to be the case, though, considering he hinted that his Yellowstone story isn’t quite finished, and the fact that Paramount is keeping advanced screenings of the new episodes under lock and key to an extent like never before.)
While we can’t say for certain what will happen in the final six episodes, Luke, Kelsey, and Wes gave us a taste of what to expect.
“I think this is Luke’s season—it’s his time to shine and it was very exciting to see him work,” Kelsey said during our sit-down. “I'm excited for y'all to see Kayce Dutton do his thing.”
As a refresher, Kayce and Monica have been left in charge of the ranch while Rip and the ranchers head south with the herd, and while John and Beth navigate the murky political waters.
Meanwhile, Jamie is seemingly gearing up to destroy the Duttons now that he knows what’s on the line.
“I think Jamie’s at a really interesting place for the fans right now because he's, for the first time, showing something like strength—and I think he's believing in his idea finally,” Wes reveals. “Jamie's a broken man and a weak man in a lot of ways, but instead of leaning on who he is, I think he's leaning on his idea, and he believes in it fully, and now it's dangerous because I think he thinks he's got to get people out of the way for that idea. And that's where we are with Jamie.”
All in all, the cast is keeping it very tight-lipped leading into the Season 5B premiere and the eventual (supposed) series finale.
“I can't say too much about it, but I think it's going to be unlike any other finale that the people have seen—I can’t wait,” Luke revealed, describing the final episodes of Season 5 as “profound,” “poetic,” and heart-breaking.
“You know what's great about this season coming up? We’ve got a lot of reveals; we’ve got a lot of secrets. It's what's exciting about TV—for me as a fan, I love watching and being surprised by things,” Wes shared. “So we’ve got a lot of that coming up—you know, who knows when it ends, but it's been a great great journey, no matter what.”
Tune into Paramount Network on Sunday, November 10, for the return of Yellowstone.
