'Yellowstone' Fans Think Beth Dutton Sealed Jamie's Fate with This Confession
The return of Yellowstone has simultaneously felt like a whirlwind and a slow-going unfolding of, well, we don’t know what. With just a single episode left in the season (and supposedly the series), so many plotlines remain untied. Perhaps the most prominent of all—apart from the fate of the Yellowstone ranch—is what’s going to happen to Jamie, the character viewers collectively love to hate. Will Beth get her revenge? After episode 12, fans have a funny feeling that Rip’s going to step in.
In the episode, Beth leaned into her mama instincts while comforting Carter following Colby’s death.
“I got pregnant in this room and then I told the love of my life that I never wanted to see him again. He was sat right where you are,” Beth told Carter. When he asked her why she did that, she responded, “I was ashamed and I was scared. You take these things out on the ones you love the most, for some reason.”
In the scene, Beth goes on to tell Carter that he can’t blame himself for what happened to Colby—that there’s no one to blame; that Colby made his own choice, and that she’s glad that he did. One might connect the dots then and think that, somehow, someway, Beth is reaching a point where she no longer resents Jamie for taking her to the Indian Health Services clinic and authorizing forced sterilization when she was a teenager. That’s not the case, though. Instead, fans are viewing this motherly admission to Carter as the nail in the casket—or the surefire trip to the train station, rather—for Jamie. After all, Rip knows that Beth can’t have children but he doesn’t know—or at least the show hasn’t yet made it clear—that Beth was pregnant with his child when her abortion and subsequent sterilization occurred.
“Anyone else think the conversation between Beth and Carter about her abortion will get Jamie unalived by Rip,” someone asked on Facebook in a popular group dedicated to Yellowstone and 1923. At once, the theories came flying in. “Carter will probably ask Beth ‘So, what happened to the baby?’ in front of Rip. She'll look at him and Rip and say, ‘What baby?’ not immediately recalling her conversation about getting pregnant. Carter will then say ‘You told me you got pregnant, remember?’ At which point Rip stares at her. This will be the end for Jamie,” one fan predicted. “Rip will have more than one reason to end Jamie,” another fan remarked.
We’re just days away from finding out the reality of Jamie, Beth and Rip, and the rest of the Dutton clan. Be sure to tune into Paramount Network at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, December 15, for the season finale.
