“You know when you’ve already been champion of the world, there’s only one place to go next, and that’s to the stars,” Lynch said. “I’m so excited to share with all of you that I’m joining ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ as part of the bridge crew. This has been the most amazing experience, acting alongside just a spectacular cast and crew, and I cannot wait for all of you to check it out when it comes out on Paramount Plus.”
The Lass-Kicker concluded her announcement with a Vulcan salute: “Live long and prosper.”
Lynch is one of the most celebrated women’s wrestlers of all time. In addition to her multiple title reigns in WWE, she is no stranger to acting. She previously appeared as herself in an episode of “Billions” on Showtime and also appeared in an episode of the NBC sitcom “Young Rock.”
No premiere date has been announced for “Starfleet Academy.” Lynch joins Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner in the new series. It was previously announced that Holly Hunter will star as captain and chancellor of the academy, while Paul Giamatti set to play the season’s villain.
“Star Trek: Discovery” stars Tig Notaro, Mary Wiseman, and Oded Fehr are all set to reprise their roles in “Academy”, with “Star Trek: Voyager” mainstay Robert Picardo also returning to the franchise. “Orphan Black” alum Tatiana Maslany will guest star. The show has already been renewed for a second season.
The official logline for “Star Trek: Starfleet: Academy” states that it will follow “the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy. The series will introduce viewers to this young group of cadets as they come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.”
