Foreplay: Tips and techniques

Foreplay on autopilot: five minutes of kissing here, five minutes of oral there, then – bam – the main event.

Our recent Women's Health reader survey found 22 per cent of you think it isn’t enough. Seems it’s time to vary our pre-game repertoire. Try these pleasure-boosting moves:

UNHAND YOURSELF!

Sexologist Tracey Cox, author of Pocket Superhotsex says we’re often too reliant on using our hands to turn each other on, and suggests tying your partner’s hands together.

“They’ve got no option but to up the oral quotient by using their lips, teeth, tongue – or parts of themselves they wouldn’t usually dream of using,” she says. Sounds like a winner, hands down.

MASSAGE WITH A DIFFERENCE

Have him lie on his stomach, then straddle his back, aligning your clitoris over his sacrum (the bony plate at the base of the spine, above his bum crack).

Move your hips while using your hands to massage both sides of his spine.

“The friction from his tailbone will arouse you, and you’ll awaken the sacral nerves that connect to his genitals,” says Dr Sandor Gardos, founder of My Pleasure.

THERE ARE NO LIMITS

Research from the Kinsey Institute in the US has found a link between a greater ability to fantasise and high testosterone levels. Tell him one of your fantasies, then ask him to reciprocate. Sharing your erotic ambitions will turn you on and deepen the bond between you.

BREATHE IN SYNC

Whether you’re going down on him or he’s giving you a massage, “Try to breathe in time with each other – make breaths slow and deep so that they go right to your belly,” says sex expert Anne Hooper, author of Sex Play.

This helps you connect, and keeps you centred and relaxed, she says.

DISCOVER SOME NEW TERRAIN

The area between your chin and your throat is the most sensitive part of your neck because the nerves sit closer to the skin’s surface. Get your partner to lightly lick this zone, for starters.

Next, get him to spoon you while he reaches around and stimulates your breasts, rubbing the sensitive flesh above the areolae, in the 10 o’clock to two o’clock area.

Meanwhile, try grazing your fingers along his inner thigh, stopping just before his scrotum, then moving back down. This thin-skinned area is especially sensitive.
