Women Encouraged To Wear Red Lipstick And Fight Rape

One viral campaign is encouraging women to pull out their fave red lippy this month to raise awareness about sexual assault.

Red My Lips aims to end the culture if blaming the victim – it doesn’t matter if the woman in question was wearing a short skirt, or a low-cut top or drinking alcohol – rape is never okay.

As April is the official Sexual Assault Awareness Month, supporters have been posting selfies wearing red lipstick with the hashtag #RedMyLips on on social media.

A woman who has firsthand experience with rape and the injustices surrounding it started the initiative.

After being raped three years ago, Daniella Tansino was told by a female attorney that the court would not prosecute because “jurors don’t like girls that drink”.

Outraged by the lawyer’s advice, Tansino began the online campaign to empower women all over the world.

“When people in my life show up wearing red lipstick, it says, ‘I see you. I hear you. What happened was not your fault. You’re not alone. And I’m not afraid to be seen and fight alongside you,’” she told Flare.
