A woman is igniting viral conversation online after sharing that she and her fiancé are making mortgage payments on a home owned by his ex.

In a post shared to Reddit, the anonymous 42-year-old woman writes that she recently moved in to the home her fiancé originally purchased with his ex-wife — but before doing so, she made it clear that the move was temporary.

"I have always told him that this is temporary for us because I want us to buy a home together," she writes, adding that "the house is only in her name but we pay the mortgage payments."

But while she and her fiancé have been making payments to his ex-wife, it appears they haven't been going toward the mortgage.

"This came up because he was giving her the money to pay the mortgage and one day we were served with pre foreclosure notice. In essence she wasn’t paying," she writes on Reddit. "So the house had to be refinanced which extended the mortgage by years and also raised the mortgage 400 dollars."

While the woman writes that she was upset, her fiancé "decided we should take on the extra 400."

"Now we are paying the 2200 mortgage and she is reaping the benefits of her credit being brought back up," the woman adds.

The woman says she plans to "move forward with buying my own house," leaving her fiancé to deal with the other home.

Reddit commenters have weighed in, with many arguing that the fiancé likely won't ever be able to sell the house, even if he's the one paying the mortgage.

"That flimsy piece of paper [the ex] signed is going to be a legal battle later on when that house has quite the equity and all of the sudden she sees no reason to part with that. He can’t even sell it. You can’t open escrow with a piece of paper that says 'so and so gave me the house,' " writes one commenter.

Adds another: "It’s hers, legally. This is the worst idea he could have had. When she stopped paying he should have bought the house off her."
