A Massachusetts couple's birth plan didn't exactly go as they imagined.

On Aug. 8, Rebecca Mahota and her husband Danya, of Brewster, Cape Cod, ended up welcoming their daughter, Summer, on the side of the Route 6 highway as they made their way to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth, per the Cape Cod Times, WCVB, and CTV News.

"(Rebecca) starts screaming, and she's like, 'She's coming,'" Danya recalled of the pair making their way up the highway at the time of the birth, per the Cape Cod Times.

"I'm driving obviously, I reach down between my wife's legs, and, sure enough, I feel the top of my daughter's head," he added to the outlet.

Per WCVB, Summer's arrival came just 26 minutes into their 56-minute journey to the hospital.

“One contraction later, he had pulled over to the side of the road. I was already holding her head,” Rebecca told the outlet, adding, “It was actually private and special, although not at all the plan. But it worked out beautifully.”

Confirming the story on Instagram on Aug. 11, Rebecca wrote in a lengthy caption, "Thursday morning, I gave birth, my husband delivered our eight pound eleven ounce daughter in the passenger seat of my Land Rover. Contractions came on suddenly and strong, Danya drove his safest and fastest weaving through possibly all of Cape Cod's slowest drivers."

"But even with the emergency hazards, the flickering of the headlights and beeping, it became clear we were adding vehicular birth to our resumes," she added.

"He ran around the truck to catch my feet on his shoulders and with grace and impressive technique we worked beautifully as a team to deliver her in about two and a half minutes," Rebecca continued of her husband in the post.

"We cried all together, we were and are still in complete shock with an immense gratitude she and I are both totally completely healthy," she added.

The couple then headed to a Dunkin' Donuts in Sagamore Beach's parking lot to wait for help. Paramedics arrived and took Rebecca and Summer to hospital to get checked over.

"They handed me a sterilized exacto knife, and I, like every Massachusetts father, cut my baby's umbilical cord in a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot," Danya told the Cape Cod Times.

“My wife is an absolute legend,” he added to WCVB. “Everything could have gone wrong, and everything went right.”

"That was probably the most nerve wracking, was making sure, okay, we're breathing, we're all here, we're good," Rebecca told the Cape Cod Times of Summer's arrival, adding, "And we kind of look at each other, we're like, 'That just happened.' "

The couple then realized they'd lost Rebecca's phone and Danya's wedding ring amid the drama.

"I found it about eight feet from where the phone was," Danya told the publication of coming across his missing jewelry on the side of the highway. "Sure enough, coming around the back of the truck, it had fallen and slipped off my finger, because obviously my hands were a mess."

Rebecca went on to add that her daughter "had a different plan to enter this world." "I keep calling her the show stopper," she told the Cape Cod Times.
