"I Wish Kurt Were Here": Tony Hawk Just Reflected On The Fact That Kurt Cobain Will Never Get To Meet Their Shared Grandson, And People Are Emotional

In October 2023, social media went wild when it was revealed that Frances Bean Cobain and Riley Hawk had gotten married, with both of their dads absolutely legendary ‘90s icons. If you need reminding, Frances is the only child of Courtney Love and Nirvana star Kurt Cobain, who died in April 1994 when Frances was just 19 months old. Meanwhile, Riley is one of skateboarding hero Tony Hawk’s two sons, and his mom is Cindy Dunbar.

And in September 2024, it was announced that Frances and Riley had welcomed their first child together, a baby boy who they named Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk. While Ronin undeniably has two of the coolest grandfathers on the planet, Tony recently reflected on the fact that the five month old will never get to meet his grandpa Kurt.

Taking to his Instagram story over the weekend, Tony shared a ticket stub from a Nirvana concert that he attended way back in October 1991, in Houston, Texas. Captioning the picture, Tony explained that he was in the area for a skateboarding competition at the time, and went directly to Kurt’s show after the event.

“Went straight from S.U.A.S event at Houston skatepark to this concert in 1991,” he wrote. “It was as transformative as live music can possibly be: We all experienced something rare and powerful that night. The world would never be the same.”

Acknowledging that he and the star of that very concert now share the same grandson, Tony added: “I wish Kurt were here so he could see the incredible woman his daughter has become, meet her devoted, caring husband, and hold our wondrous grandchild.”

Needless to say, Tony’s heartfelt tribute to Kurt hit people right in the feels, with many taking to social media to share their reaction to his post. One incredibly viral tweet that included a screenshot of Tony’s story simply read: “I am sobbing at Tony Hawk posting about his grandchild who is also Kurt Cobain's grandchild,” and it has been seen more than 1.5 million times, with over 100k likes and retweets.

“I choose to believe in the multi-verse bc there has to be a timeline where Kurt Cobain and Tony Hawk are hanging out together, being the coolest F*ing grandpas ever. That has to exist. I choose that in a parallel world, it does,” somebody wrote in a quote-tweet.

“it’s 7 in the morning and this made me sob in public,” another user wrote, while one more quipped: “if i'm in tears over this that's my personal business.”

“What a sweet post and I simply cannot imagine a bigger flex for a grandkid to say his grandpas are Cobain and Hawk. My Gen X heart is full,” somebody else tweeted, with many others echoing this sentiment.

“Having Kurt Cobain & Tony Hawk as your grandfathers is simply an outrageous flex?” one person wrote in response to Tony’s post, while another added: “American royalty I can get behind.”

“top two white boys of all time and they share a GRANDCHILD?” somebody else tweeted, while one more concluded: “This baby is already cooler than I will ever be.”
