Will Smith to join Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air 30 year reunion

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fans are set to hit the wall today, after HBO confirmed the series cast will be reuniting for a one-off special.

Celebrating 30 years since the series first premiered on September 10, 1990, the network confirmed that they would be bringing back key cast members to tape a special episode on September 10 2020.

The reunion is confirmed to include Will Smith, now 51, who played the titular ‘prince’, a fictionalised version of himself for the series six-year run.

Also joining the now-megastar are almost the entire main cast of the series who played Will’s cousins, the well to do Banks family.

Tatyana Ali (Ashley Banks), Karyn Parsons (Hilary Banks), Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey), Daphne Maxwell Reid (Aunt Viv) and Alfonso Ribeiro (Carlton Banks) are all confirmed returns.

Also coming back is DJ Jazzy Jeff, who played Jazz Will’s best friend on the show.

Of course, tragically James Avery who played Will’s uncle Philip Banks will not be a part of the episode after passing away in 2013.

Though the special is set to be taped on September 10, it will hit HBO Max in time for US Thanksgiving on November 26 this year.

The special is said to be ‘unscripted’ and will include the cast reminiscing about the series, and reflecting back on the production and its ongoing legacy decades on.

The latest reunion news comes after it was announced that Will would be tackling a reboot of the iconic series for with Universal TV.

The new spin on the sitcom is said to be a dramatic and ‘gritty’ reworking of the original series.

It comes after Friends fans were similarly delighted to learn that the series was getting a much-awaited reunion episode.

The Friends cast confirmed the hit series’ brief return in February, more than 15 years after the final episode aired in 2004.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer all shared the news at exactly 9:00 am on Saturday, February 22, though filming has been delayed by the virus.
