“Wicked” Costars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo's 'Magical' Friendship Is Likely Thanks to This Shared Placement in Their Birth Charts
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo opened up about their birth charts on the 'Vanity Fair' Lie Detector Test series, including the zodiac sign they share
Wicked costars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo revealed they both share a significant placement in their birth charts.
In the latest installment of Vanity Fair's Lie Detector Test series released Sept. 30, the 31-year-old singer asked Erivo, 37, if she thought she embodied the traits of a Capricorn and if she researched Grande's own chart before filming Wicked together.
Erivo replied that she believed that she embodied the traits of a Capricorn, but did not look at Grande's chart beforehand — despite being friends on the Co-Star astrology app.
"I should've researched it, but I really wanted to," Erivo said. Grande then revealed that she and Erivo both have Capricorn in their birth charts, with the Earth sign being Erivo's sun sign and Grande's ascendant.
But what exactly does this mean in astrology?
Astrologer Valerie Mesa tells PEOPLE that in a friendship, people who share the same sun and rising signs can be "quite magical."
"The sun person physically embodies the energy of the rising sign, while the rising sign mirrors back that same energy and validation to the sun person," she explains. "The sun symbolizes our ego, identity and physical expression, while the rising sign speaks of the natural persona we project and embody when connecting with others."

In terms of Grande and Erivo's friendship, Mesa says that they both embody Capricorn energy and are "incredibly committed and dedicated to their craft" and most likely "looked up to one another during the [filming] process" for Wicked.
Grande — a Cancer Sun herself — also revealed in the lie detector test that while she is "very interested" in astrology, she "tries not to" make "rash judgments based on people's signs."

Grande previously spoke about the significant role astrology had in her life and the writing process for her most recent album Eternal Sunshine. In an interview with Zach Sang on March 12, the "Yes, And" singer spoke about doing tarot readings in the studio.
"[Astrology] is a tool to help us hear what we need to hear sometimes and look forward with hope and awareness and also read us for filth," she said. "Sometimes we need to hear it and look to something bigger than us to help us make sense of it."

In the track "Saturn Returns Interlude," Grande featured astrologist Diana Garland, who spoke about the intense and necessary changes a person goes through during their own Saturn return and said that she used that moment to talk about the own shift and "course correction" in her life and the album's sonic shift.
Grande explained that for her, "Eternal Sunshine feels like a pivotal moment in the story and 'Saturn Returns' coming right before tells you to wake up... and sets up the rest of the album."
