Why Tom Holland Has Wanted to Propose to Zendaya "For a While Now"
"He always knew she was the one."
If your first reaction to reading that Tom Holland proposed to Zendaya was Finally! or About time!, don't worry, you're not the only one. It appears Holland himself shares this sentiment, as he couldn't wait to pop the question.
Hours after it was reported that The Crowded Room star got down on one knee, a source told People he had been "wanting to propose to [Zendaya] for a while now."
"He's always been crazy about her. He always knew she was the one," the source continued. "They have something very special."
The insider shared that "everyone close to them knew the engagement was happening," just not when it was going to take place. Holland reportedly asked for Zendaya's hand over the holidays and told his friends about their engagement around New Year's.
While the Spiderman co-stars will officially be tying the knot, they want to enjoy being engaged for a while.
"They will just enjoy things for now and won't rush a wedding. They are both busy with work projects," the source said.
Ever the doting boyfriend—or now fiancé—Holland is overjoyed with their betrothal. "Tom's always had this sweet way of letting the world know that Zendaya is his. Now, it's official—she really is," the source gushed.
The couple first sparked engagement rumors last night, when Zendaya walked the Golden Globes red carpet with a giant sparkler on that finger. The Euphoria star arrived in a dramatic burnt-orange gown, copper Old Hollywood bob, and diamond Bvlgari jewelry. The Italian luxury brand released a press statement about the jewelry, including details about her platinum diamond and tourmaline necklace, a right hand ring, and diamond stud earrings. However, they didn't include information about the diamond ring on her left hand, leading onlookers to believe it was her own piece.
Later in the night, she changed into a shimmery slip dress and removed all of her Bvlgari jewelry, but not her presumed engagement ring.
This morning, TMZ was the first to report that a source confirmed Holland proposed to Zendaya over the holiday break at one of her family homes.
Tomdaya has been romantically linked since 2017 after they met on the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Over the years, they have kept their relationship largely under wraps, allowing glimpses into their sweet bond. Mose recently, Holland told Men's Health he refrains from joining his girl on the carpet, “Because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us."
