Royal snub? Why William and Kate weren't at family wedding
Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding was a family affair, with not only the Queen, Prince Harry and Princess Beatrice showing up in their finest attire, but also Kate Middleton’s parents and her siblings in attendance.
However, there was no sign of the Duchess of Cambridge at the Windsor Castle nuptials, or her 36-year-old husband, the Duke of Cambridge, for that matter.
Prince William and Kate Middleton skipped the wedding of the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, who married her long-term boyfriend Thomas Kingston, at the church where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said their ‘I do’s’ on the same weekend in May last year.
It turns out Prince William had prior commitments he would have been unable to get out of - the Duke is the President of the Football Association and the FA Cup Final was held on the same day as the wedding.
"The Duke of Cambridge, President of the FA, will attend the 2019 FA Cup Final between Manchester City and Watford at Wembley Stadium, and will present the trophy to the winners,” Kensington Palace said in a statement during the week.
It’s not known exactly why the 37-year-old Duchess of Cambridge decided to skip the happy celebration at Windsor Castle, although it’s likely she’s preparing for the Chelsea Flower Show this week, where she will present her own ‘Back to Nature’ garden.
“The woodland wilderness garden aims to get people back to nature, and highlight the benefits of the natural world on our mental and physical wellbeing,: Kensington Palace wrote in a picture of Kate swinging on a rope swing.
“In recent years I have focused much of my work on the early years, and how instrumental they are for outcomes later in life. I believe that spending time outdoors when we are young can play a role in laying the foundations for children to become happy, healthy adults,” Kate said.
Kate Middleton’s sister-in-law, Meghan Markle, was also nowhere to be seen at Lady Gabriella’s wedding.
But after only giving birth two weeks’ ago, we presume the Duchess of Sussex was enjoying time with her newborn son, Archie Mountbatten Windsor.
