Why 'Dancing with the Stars' Isn't On Tonight

Dancing with the Stars will be missing from its usual Tuesday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT time slot tonight on ABC because its being preempted by the vice-presidential debate, VP Debate: Vance vs Walz. The event is hosted by CBS News, but it will be simulcast on ABC.

At 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, the ABC News Special: Race for the White House will feature a countdown to the debate between Ohio Sen. JD Vance and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz. Then at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, the debate, moderated by outgoing CBS Evening News anchor Norah O’Donnell and Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan, will be broadcast.

When will tonight's Dancing with the Stars air?

But not to worry. This week’s hiatus means a double dose of Dancing with the Stars next week. On Monday, Oct. 7, the 11 remaining contestants (see below) will return for a Soul Train themed night. It will be prerecorded this week to enable the contestants to have time to prepare another dance for next Tuesday. Because of the prerecord and no voting, it isn’t clear if there will be an elimination that night or a double elimination the next night after America has a chance to vote.

Then, on Tuesday, Oct. 8, the dancers will return live with a hair metal band themed show.
