Movie Review: The Kings of Mykonos

COMEDY; M, 1hr 42min
STARRING: Nick Giannopoulos, Vince Colosimo, Alex Dimitriades, Zeta Makrypoulia, Cosima Coppola

Whatever the fates hurl their way, Steve Karamitsis (Giannopoulos) and his best mate, Frank (Colosimo), duck and weave in goofy unison. It doesn't hurt any that Lady Luck is in Steve's corner - minutes after his 1969 Valiant Pacer has been seized by the police, the mild one learns he has inherited a Mykonos beach from a late uncle he never knew he had.

Too good to be true? Maybe, but it's worth a flight from Melbourne to find out. Apparently the beach is worth a fortune - but so is the tax on it. Meanwhile, Frank has lost his babe-magnet mojo, which doesn't help any with chilly belle Enza (Coppola; Makrypoulia is a Greek stunner with eyes, lord knows why, for Steve).

Given the hole-in-one that was 2000's The Wog Boy, co-writer Giannopoulos is already playing to the converted. He knows exactly which notes to hit, too: the resilience of mateship, the indispensableness of family, the whitewashed blast of a Greek island, the tasty sizzle of a hot mama and the delivery of gags everybody can get. Niiice one!
