Damon Wayans Calls Bill Cosby's Accusers 'Unrapeable'

On Friday, comedian Damon Wayans made controversial comments about the myriad sexual assault allegations against Bill Cosby, saying in an interview on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club, "I just don't believe it. I think it's a money hustle."

What's more, Wayans argued that white celebrities such as Woody Allen and Stephen Collins, who have faced similar accusations, have not seen a similar backlash. (Collins has not appeared on screen since confessing late last year to abusing underage girls.)

After widespread criticism for his remarks, Wayans tweeted that his comments were being misconstrued, "Stop twisting my words. Watch the entire interview before u condemn me!"

He included a link to a specific segment of the interview, where he said, "For them, my heart goes out to them. For anybody who was raped by Bill Cosby, I'm sorry and I hope you get justice."

Wayans' opinion was prompted by the question, "What advice would he give Cosby now?"

Wayans' answer? Tell the truth.

More specifically: "If I was him, I would divorce my wife, wink-wink, give her all my money, and then I would go do a deposition. I would light one of them three-hour cigars. I'd have some wine and maybe a Quaalude, and I would just go off, because I don't believe that he was raping."

More than 40 women have now come forward with allegations against Cosby. Wayans dismissed the women's claims in Friday's interview, saying he believes instead that the women were all in relationships with Cosby at one point until he broke it off, at which point they came forward with these accusations.

"Listen, how big is his penis [that] it gives you amnesia for 40 years?" Wayans said at one point, continuing: "And some of them, really, is unrapeable."

Cosby has consistently denied the allegations of sexual assault. His lawyer, Marty Singer, previously said that the claims "about alleged decades-old events are becoming increasingly ridiculous." Cosby has never been charged for a crime related to the allegations.

The tipping point for Cosby came, Wayans argued, when he "started criticizing young black men" and so lost support in the black community. Wayans said he believes Cosby's accusers saw this as an "opening."

And Wayans did not have nice words for comedian Hannibal Burress, whose stand-up bit about Cosby's sexual assault allegations went viral in 2014, helping revive the accusations.

"I wonder how he feels, being the dude that destroyed Bill Cosby?" Wayans asked rhetorically at one point, and later said of Burress' new Comedy Central series, Why?, "It's premature … I don't feel it right now."
