'The West Wing' Fans Won't Believe Which Stars Will Be Reuniting on TV
This story contains light spoilers from The Diplomat season 2.
Folks, it looks like Josh Lyman and C.J. Cregg are reuniting on TV! Well, sort of.
It's been almost two decades since Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford shared the screen on the hit drama The West Wing. With fans constantly begging for the cast to work on other projects together, it looks like the two actors are taking that request to heart. What's more, we get to see the two of them step back into political shoes in a way that fans will be truly surprised by.
According to a report from Deadline on January 24, Bradley will join Allison for a recurring role on The Diplomat season 3 on Netflix. But that's not all the outlet said about the two's upcoming reunion. Bradley and Allison will also be switching up their work dynamic, as Bradley will portray the as-yet-unnamed husband to Allison's character, VP-turned-President Grace Penn. And if that's not enough, production on The Diplomat is already underway in New York City — meaning their onscreen reunion is coming sooner rather than later.
When fans saw Allison and Bradley would share the screen together once more, excitement immediately broke out on social media.
"Well, you just got me to put that show waaaaayyy up on my watchlist," one person wrote on Instagram. "FINALLY, some good news!!! This just made my day. I can’t wait to see these two amazing actors together again," another declared. "It’s like a dream coming true!👏," a different follower added.
As fans may remember, Bradley and Allison portrayed Josh and C.J. (the deputy chief of staff and press secretary-turned-chief of staff, respectively) throughout The West Wing's seven-year run (from 1999 to 2006) on NBC. While the two have been seen together since the show ended, it was for more personal events rather than acting projects. Meaning: Bradley and Allison's TV catch-up is one fans will definitely be excited about.
As far as how the two will be folded in The Diplomat season 3, the season 2 finale ended on a massive cliffhanger. With previous president William Rayburn (Michael McKean) suddenly dying from Penn's involvement in a political scandal, Penn suddenly finds herself becoming the U.S. Commander in Chief. While other key details are being kept under wraps, it'll be interesting to see how Allison's character will interact with her husband in this new position.
Either way, it looks like we need to catch up on The Diplomat so we can see The West Wing reunion we all were waiting for!
