Watch these romantic moments on National Couples Day

“It takes two,” as the saying goes, and no day embodies that sentiment more than National Couples Day.

Celebrated every year on August 18, National Couples Day was created in 2010 as part of a product promotion. It’s since evolved into a non-commercial celebration of the love, companionship, and sense of well-being that coupledom can bring.

Whether you're married, engaged, in a long-term relationship, or dating, life just feels more complete for many people with a special someone to share it with. National Couples Day encourages all couples to pause and appreciate their partners regardless of gender, orientation, or ethnicity.

Among the suggested ways couples can celebrate and cement their romantic bond:

  • Spend some quality time together. Put down that phone and focus on each other with no distractions.

  • Share a fun activity, whether that’s an elaborate adventure or just a simple romantic walk.

  • Talk! Communication is key in any relationship, so take the opportunity to deepen your bond and mutual understanding by sharing your hopes, dreams, concerns, and fears.

  • Say, thank you! Gratitude and acknowledgment are always welcome, in or out of a relationship. The desire to be noticed is a natural human trait. And the thank you doesn’t have to be some grand gesture, a kind word, a handwritten note, or a thoughtful gift can speak volumes about your feelings toward your significant other.

National Couples Day is about celebrating the teamwork it takes to build and maintain a relationship and an opportunity to say, “I love you. Thanks for being you. And I’m so glad you chose me."
