I Want To Hear Your "Traveling While Black" Horror Stories

Not to sound like a typical dating profile prompt, but I love to travel. One thing about me, is when things get stressful, I get on a flight. But traveling as a Black person can be...stressful.

Recently, a close friend (also Black) and I had a layover in Turkey and were treated horribly by airport staff compared to other travelers of other races.

And I've had many instances if I've been asked, "Where are you from?" I'd reply, "The United States," and now they're being intrusive and telling me why I should be saying where in Africa I'm from.

The concept of being "African American" is still not well understood at all.

So I want to hear from y'all: What are your traveling horror stories as a Black person?

Maybe you've been called derogatory names by someone in their native language, not knowing you understood them.

Or you've had people touch your hair or try to take pictures with/of you without your consent.
