The Viral Recipe That Has Us Rushing Out to Buy Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Dough

Every year, I make plans to celebrate the holiday baking season by making some elaborate desserts, but I don't always have time to make my sweet dreams a reality. I like to remind myself that it's okay because sometimes, the best holiday desserts are the simplest ones to make. Classics, like simple sugar cookies, a basic fudge or no-bake dessert bars, capture the spirit of the season without requiring hours in the kitchen, and they still bring comfort and joy to holiday gatherings.

The simplicity of these desserts also allows for creative twists, like adding festive decorations, making them both fun and delicious. Plus, these desserts invite everyone to join in, whether it’s rolling cookie dough or sprinkling toppings. In a season full of hustle and bustle, these simple, straightforward treats are a sweet way to savor all that the holidays have to offer.

And to make things even easier, you can start with a package (or two) of Pillsbury cookie dough. We've been seeing stacked Pillsbury cookies all over our social media feeds. First, it was a Halloween version and now we're seeing many holiday options. Content creator @jenglufling recently shared her festive take on the trend and we can't wait to try it.

What is the Pillsbury Stacked Cookie Trend?

The Pillsbury stacked cookies trend is a viral hack that involves layering two types of Pillsbury cookies—typically chocolate chip cookie dough as the base and a decorative sugar cookie on top—before baking them together. The result is an adorable, gooey, flavorful treat that combines different textures and flavors in one bite.

How to Make Pillsbury Stacked Christmas Cookies

Jen started with two pieces of plain Pillsbury sugar cookie dough, which she rolled into a ball. Next, she rolled the dough into holiday sprinkles and placed them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

In the caption of her TikTok video, she says to bake the cookies at 350° for 10 minutes. Pull the cookies out of the oven and add a Pillsbury Christmas cookie on top. Bake the cookies for an additional 10 minutes for a delicious festive treat that takes less than 30 minutes to make from start to finish.

What's So Great About the Pillsbury Stacked Cookie Trend?

This stacked cookie trend appeals to bakers of all skill levels because it's incredibly simple: just stack, bake and enjoy! The base sugar cookie bakes up crispy and butter, while the cookie on top is browned around the edges but is soft and tender in the center because it doesn't bake as long and is insulated from the heat by the cookie below it.

The hack is also versatile because you can use seasonal designs and experiment with different cookie dough combinations. You can also add different sprinkles, small candies and even frosting to dress up the cookies. They make great treats for holiday gatherings, and they can be cute edible gifts, too!
