Village Roadshow struck its first-look deal with NBA legend Garnett in 2021 to develop and produce feature films, scripted and unscripted TV, and digital content. Garnett set up the company with Brian Bennett and Mike Marangu.

The deal has already generated series including Goliath about Wilt Chamberlain, features such as Cinnamon with Pam Grier and Damon Wayans and Murder City starring Mike Colter.

Club Random Studios was founded by Maher, Chris Case, and Chuck LaBella to house, finance, and develop celebrity-hosted podcasts. The company launched a partnership in March with Garnett for KG Certified, the Content Cartel podcast hosted by Garnett, and Ticket and The Truth, hosted by Garnett and fellow Hall of Famer Paul Pierce

VREG and Content Cartel are working on Lo Lifes: Stealing The American Dream, about the legendary Ralph Lauren shoplifting crew that spurred a hip-hop fashion revolution, Swoosh, about the founding of Nike based on the book by Julie Strasser, and Prince Pius, about a charismatic young Nigerian who comes to America with nothing and creates a smuggling empire.

VREG CEO Steve Mosko said, “So far, our partnership with Kevin and the Content Cartel team has been as successful as we envisioned when we set out together in 2021. We have already released a number of excellent projects together, spanning formats and genres and supporting VREG’s broader content strategy, and Kevin and his partners have proven their value both within and beyond the sports space. We look forward to a new phase of this partnership that continues to bring the best in scripted and non-scripted content to audiences across distribution channels.”

Garnett added, “Very excited to continue our partnership with Village Roadshow & Bill Maher’s team. I’m a huge fan of Bill – he’s authentic, he’s real, he’s an OG. Our focus at Content Cartel is to produce the most authentic, original, and inspiring content across all platforms. The podcast space has allowed us the freedom to incubate great stories, IP, and concepts with some of the dopest talent and creators in the game. With this team, we are planning to expand our brand beyond sports into true crime, finance, health & wellness and tech spaces. We are currently looking to partner with brands, sponsors, and talent that shares our vision and we are very excited for the future.”
