Viewers cringe at first look of MAFS 2020
Viewers have been given the first glimpse of the new season of Married at First Sight, and the reaction has been, well, underwhelming.
The ad released by Nine on Sunday is dramatic and abstract, and shows a number of couples dressed in wedding gowns and suits wandering through what appears to be an enchanted forest.
If that wasn’t quirky enough, they then approach a Stranger Things-style ‘tunnel of love’ where they encounter their perfect match.
One lucky couple collides and begins making out before they’re levitated off the ground and rocketed through the ceiling into the open night’s air.
Fans were confused and suspicious, with one person on Facebook summing it up nicely by saying, “I love how they pretend it’s about the weddings. It’s all about those weekly dinner parties. Bring on the drama!”
😂 the ad is so dramatic - also hope the people cramming their tongues down each other’s throats are actually matched on the show and not just the ad... or is it a preview of another swap 🙃

“Every time I thought they couldn't take the ad to another level of stupidity it surprised me and doubled the hell down,” another said.
“Tunnel of failure more like it lol. Seriously one of the worst and cheesiest, overdramatised ads I’ve ever seen,” commented a third, and a fourth fan wrote, “This promo video reminds me of one of those odd and slightly confusing perfume ads.”
Who are the 2020 stars?
The ad also shows us a number of next year’s brides and grooms, including Mishel, Connie, Aleksandra, Mikey, Poppy, David, Tash and Chris.
A few other faces are shown without names, and it’s unclear which of those people are set to take part in the experiment, and which are actors paid to appear in the ad.
One person we already know, is Elizabeth Sobinoff, who is set to return to the series as an intruder.
Photos from her wedding showed her family eagerly awaiting her second trip down the aisle, and it’s been rumoured that the person she is paired up with is an AFL player.
According to the Daily Mail, Elizabeth is matched with Seb Guilhaus, who - along with being a professional sportsman - describes himself as a “personal trainer, natural fitness model and try-hard comedian” on Instagram.
