Valerie Bertinelli Doesn’t Weigh Herself Anymore After Being 'Considered Overweight' at 150 Lbs.
“It’s stupid and I believed them for far too long,” said the Food Network star, 63, sharing a throwback photo of herself from 2014
Valerie Bertinelli is sharing why she doesn’t step on a scale anymore.
On Thursday, the Food Network star, 63, posted two throwback photos from 10 years ago of herself on Instagram wearing a bikini and swimming at the pool. She reflected on how being called overweight at the time impacted her over the years.
“2014 #tbt This is a 150lb body on a 5’4 frame,” she captioned the post. “I don’t weigh myself anymore because this is considered overweight by whose standards I don’t know. It’s stupid and I believed them for far too long.”
“I now, finally, know that I am a kind, considerate, funny, thoughtful woman,” she continued. “So please remember, who you are and what your character is, should never be overshadowed by what size you are or how much you weigh. You are enough. Just the way you are. F— ‘em 💜#throwbackthursday.”
Bertinelli received tons of uplifting messages from her followers who praised her growth and how much of an inspiration she is.
“Thank you. This helps! ❤️Such a relief to have your priorities be health and mental contentment. F— the rest👏👏👏” one person commented while another said, “You've always been an inspiration to me!! Screw the damn scale!!!”
“You are beautiful in every size Val. Don’t listen to anyone. At our age Peace of mind is the key to life,” one woman added.

Over the years, Bertinelli has been open about having a tricky relationship with her weight and health. Most recently, she’s made several posts on social media embracing her body and enjoying her wellness journey.
In October 2023, the Hot in Cleveland star said she felt beautiful after finding her old “fat clothes" in the back of her closet. She posted a video on Instagram after finding the outfit she wore in her very first “before photo" as a Jenny Craig spokesperson.
“Health is not a body size. Health is not the number you see on the scale. Your worth as a human being isn’t dictated by your body,” she said while standing in the mirror while wearing a pink button-up shirt and jeans.
“I thought I was fat the last time I wore these clothes,” she said. "I’ve never felt more beautiful, more at peace, more mentally and emotionally stable than I do today and I’m wearing my ‘fat clothes.’ That’s f—ed up.”
Bertinelli added in the caption that she found the old clothes in the back of her closet and although she doesn’t know why she kept them, she’s glad she did.
“I continue to work on not suppressing or numbing my feelings with food or alcohol and here I am. I am enough,” she wrote. “Our bodies do not define who we are as human being’s. A number on the scale does not define how much love your heart can hold. 🩷Please love yourself, every single part of you. YOU ARE ENOUGH 🤍✌🏻”
