'This Is Us' Fans Are Arguing Over Cassidy’s Return in the Latest Season 6 Episode

Kevin (Justin Hartley) might still be hoping to have a happily ever after ending, but he recently learned it won’t be happening with Cassidy (Jennifer Morrison).

On Tuesday night’s episode of This Is Us, different relationships were explored, including Kevin and Cassidy's, which has seemed to be an open door for a while. But to the Pearson family member’s dismay, it was promptly shut during an ice cream run. It all began when Kevin visited Pennsylvania to check the progress on the house he was building for Rebecca (Mandy Moore). While there, Cassidy met up with Kevin, Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) and his new girlfriend, Edie (Vanessa Bell Calloway).

Their in-person reunion seemed to be going well until Kevin tried holding Cassidy’s hand. After she pulled away, Kevin said the two of them had a “connection” and she wholeheartedly disagreed with him. “There’s no reality to a relationship working with us … Your inner darkness is not the same as mine,” she told him. “Our darknesses are not the same. You are chasing the wrong blonde in the wrong city. And if you want the rom-com story, you should go make things right with her.”

Cassidy continued: “You’ve been blowing up women’s lives for the better part of two decades. I know you mean well, I do. But you know, you are like a big handsome wrecking ball … I’m too messed up already. Leave me in peace.”

After hearing her be brutally honest with Kevin, many This Is Us fans applauded Cassidy on Twitter for her “wise words” and “a much-needed dose of truth bomb.” Folks also voiced their support for the guest character.

“I like Cassidy for Kevin. She tells him what it is without ever holding back. She's the only person where he's his full flawed self around,” one person wrote. “I hope Cassidy & Kevin remain friends, she isn’t intimidated to tell him how it is & he needs that grounding,” another added.

On the other hand, there was a separate group that wasn’t as thrilled to see her return. “Ugh.. Cassidy is back,” a follower commented. “Cassidy and Kevin scenes are truly doing nothing for me,” someone else tweeted.

But whether or not This Is Us fans like Cassidy, actress Jennifer Morrison, who has played the guest character since 2019, confirmed that her story doesn’t end here. “I can say that it is not the last time you'll see her,” she told People.
