An urgent recall is underway for a common bottle of prune juice after alcohol was discovered as a result of unintended fermentation.

A brand of prune juice is being pulled from Aussie supermarket shelves after it was discovered the products contain alcohol as a result of fermentation.

The recall notice for 1L bottles of Sunraysia Prune Juice, made by Sabrands Australia, was issued on Tuesday.

The product has been available for sale at Coles and Woolworths stores in NSW, Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia and has a best before date of December 4, 2025.

“The recall is due to unintended fermentation and the presence of alcohol,” a notice from Food Standards Australia New Zealand said.

“Consumption of this product may cause illness/injury if consumed.”

Shoppers are urged not to drink the product and return it for a full refund.
