You know that feeling when you wake up in the morning and you’re getting dressed for the day and you just, well, stop? You stop because you don’t know — either it’s because you have an overwhelming amount of clothes to choose from, in which too much choice makes you unable to decide, or you’re simply lacking creativity in that moment, making you unable to piece together a look. I get it, because I’ve been there, and while it’s a feeling you’ll probably stumble upon every so often — and that’s okay! — there’s one facet of my wardrobe that I never struggle to decide on because I know it works every single time: shoes, especially, my white sneaker collection.

I have a lot of shoes, but if you look at the assortment, you’ll see most of the styles are classic white sneakers. And that’s because in my 29 years, I’ve realized that it’s the one shoe that truly goes with everything — and works for every occasion, whether casual or dressy. Just take a look at Uma Thurman’s latest look.

The actress took a dressier route with a recent outing, opting for an all-blue look with a pop of crisp white (ahem, those Prada sneakers). She wore a cozy, light blue sweater with a white button-down underneath, a layered look that’s especially popular this time of year. Styling a collared shirt under a simple knit instantly dresses up an ensemble while also offering extra warmth — a win-win! She rounded out the look with tailored, dark blue trousers and those simple white leather sneakers. The kicks obviously coordinated with the pop of white on top, but they also offered a low-key cool element to the otherwise dressy look.

Thurman wore her sneakers with trousers, which, TBH, is my favorite way to style kicks. That’s because I love the juxtaposition of the more elevated bottoms with the sporty footwear — it’s a cool combo that combines athletic elements with refined office wear, for an outfit that’s elegant but comfy, too. That said, there’s really no limit in how you can wear your white sneakers. I’ve paired them with everything like breezy pleated skirts, classic blue jeans, flowy gowns, and some people even wear them with their wedding dress (cool bride vibes!). You can truly wear them anywhere: The office, brunch with friends, dinner date with your boo, or running errands around the city are all suitable occasions for sneakers.

TL;DR? The beloved shoe style, which is inherently simple and exceptionally comfy, knows no bounds. I’d go so far as to crown it the most versatile footwear ever, so shop some really good white sneakers below, including the one pair I wear most often.
