At a recent dinner with friends I hadn’t seen in months, I received more hair-centric compliments than I ever had in my life (the best among them: “rich girl hair”). In the time between our last dinner together, I’d mastered my Dyson Airwrap; I’d also experimented with countless products designed to add mirror-like shine to dull strands. Many proved greasy, not glossy; yet, as my friend’s compliments suggest, I ultimately managed to cull a collection of gloss-giving hair products.

Color Wow Dreamcoat Supernatural Spray
This smoothing styling spray has topped Amazon’s best-seller list for as long as I can remember—and rightfully so. Applied to damp hair, the ultra-fine mist coats the entire head, smoothing frizzy bits and smoothing rough, dry areas. Post-styling, hair acquires a luminous sheen. Plus, it shields strands from humidity, thus fending off frizz in even the most humid of weather. FWIW: Jennifer Lopez has relied on the product.
L’Oréal Paris Elvive 8 Second Wonder Water
Smoother, shinier hair in less than 10 seconds seems an impossible claim to fulfill, but L’Oréal’s 8 Second Wonder Water delivers. The water-light formula is packed with hydrating ingredients and strand-smoothing proteins to revive the dull, haylike hair. Moreover, the weightless liquid contains zero silicones (a weighty ingredient often found in smoothing products), making it particularly ideal for oily hair types and hair that’s prone to flattening throughout the day.
Mise En Scene Perfect Serum
Whereas many hair oils leave strands slick, this popular Korean serum is remarkably featherlight. I’ve used the formula both pre and post-blowdry; either way, it smooths my parched, scraggly ends and adds a luminous glow overall. In addition to smoothing roughness, the formula boasts hair-strengthening properties, making it a win for breakage-prone hair. Finally, this serum smells divine; I’ve even had people ask what perfume I’m wearing when they get a whiff.
