Travis Kelce Is Bringing His Friends and Family to the Super Bowl, and He Says It Cost Him a Bundle

This year’s Super Bowl is the most expensive ever, and even celebs and players’ families are feeling the strain on their pocketbooks.

Travis Kelce joked that he’s down a good deal of cash to ensure that his friends and family can watch him play in the big game, the New York Post’s Page Six reported on Thursday. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is scheduled to take on the San Francisco 49ers this weekend, and—unsurprisingly—there are a lot of folks who want to see him on the field.

“I’m not really doing much different other than just counting how much money I’m spending on this damn Super Bowl for family and friends to come,” Kelce told his brother on the latest episode of their New Heights podcast. “Just making sure I’m on top of those finances and losing all this money.”

Kelce is reportedly worth some $30 million, the Post noted, so hopefully this weekend’s match-up isn’t draining his wallet too badly. But he’s not the only one who’s expressed just how expensive this year’s game is turning out to be. Earlier in the week, Kelce’s mother, Donna, said she was probably going to end up sitting in the stands because of how pricey suites are at Las Vegas’s Allegiant Stadium.

Similarly, Lisa McCaffrey, mother of 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey, has said no one in her family can afford to be in one of the VIP suites. “Long story short, they are outrageously expensive,” she said. “I don’t know if it’s the Taylor Swift factor, I don’t know if it’s the first time in Vegas factor, there is just so much going on.” (McCaffrey was of course referring to the fact that Swift, Kelce’s girlfriend, is expected to be at the game—flying all the way from Tokyo just to see him play.)

Given that the Super Bowl is taking place in Las Vegas, it’s bound to be a star-studded affair, perhaps even more so than usual. The location is one potential reason ticket costs have skyrocketed, along with the Chiefs and the 49ers being two teams people are excited to see take the field. While that may be great for the game of football, it’s turning out to be a bit of a pain for the players and their families.
