Trader Joe’s Just Dropped a New Snack—and We Didn’t See This Flavor Coming
It’s inspired by a favorite comfort food.
On the heels of the return of the Trader Joe’s chips that take inspiration from the savory combination of horseradish and chives, the store has us jumping in the car to make another snack run. This time, it’s for popcorn.
Beyond the OG butter-and-salt combo, popcorn can take on just about any flavor, including bacon, Cajun-spiced, or truffle. Trader Joe’s, which is known for super-inventive flavors like Thanksgiving Stuffing Seasoned Popcorn, just dropped a new flavor we weren’t expecting.
Trader Joe’s French Onion Popcorn
Onions are already having a moment with the viral Onion boil recipe, which marries onions with Old Bay seasoning, as well as the cheesy comfort casserole Tennessee onions. So it seems like good timing that Trader Joe's newest flavor is in line with this trend.
Trader Joe’s new French Onion Popcorn is “modeled after the cheesy, caramelized onion, and umami-full flavors of a fresh crock of French onion soup,” according to its website. It’s seasoned with garlic and onion powders and Parmesan to “evoke the essence of a rich, flavorful broth in every bite.”
Color us intrigued about a crunchy snack with a French onion soup vibe. One commenter on TikTok said the French Onion Popcorn was a "must try," and the bag only "lasted 2 minutes."
Trader Joe’s is bound to be crowded throughout the holiday season, but we think there may be the need to wrestle our way through the crowds and snag a bag of French Onion Popcorn before it’s sold out. It sounds like the perfect accompaniment to a bowl of actual French onion soup.
