Tony Awards Returning To Radio City Music Hall, Sets 2025 Date

After two years away from its most familiar home, the Tony Awards will return to New York’s Radio City Music Hall for the 2025 ceremony set for Sunday, June 8.

The return to Radio City follows two years in which awards organizers experimented with moving the ceremony outside the Broadway theater district, to mixed reviews. In 2023, the Tonys were presented at the then-newly renovated United Palace in Upper Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood, a seven-mile trek north of the Broadway district widely interpreted as the industry’s attempt to broaden its scope and appeal beyond the usual mid-town environs.

Last year, the awards ceremony was closer to the Broadway district with a move to the renovated David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the first Tony ceremony in the Upper West Side arts complex’s 50-plus-year history. While geographically closer to the main Broadway district – with its Vivian Beaumont Theater, Lincoln Center houses the only Broadway venue outside of the main midtown district – the Koch presented new problems: Considerably smaller than the 6,000-seat Radio City Music Hall, the 2,500-seat Koch necessitated a reduction in the number of tickets for the general public. To help compensate, an outdoor simulcast was held in Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park.

The move back to Radio City will mark the 21st time the celebrated venue has hosted the Tonys. No other venue comes close in terms of frequency: The Waldorf Astoria Hotel comes in second with 12 Tony ceremonies, the last of which was way back in 1962. Other years have seen the Tonys at various Broadway theaters, the Upper West Side Beacon Theatre, and, in the early 1960s, various hotel ballrooms.

The 78th Tony Awards will cover the 2024-2025 Broadway season.

The Tony Awards is presented by The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing. The awards are produced in collaboration with Tony Award Productions, a joint venture of The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing, and White Cherry Entertainment. Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss are executive producers and showrunners for White Cherry Entertainment. Weiss will serve as director. Jack Sussman is also an executive producer.
