Both Amazon Studios and representatives for Turner declined to comment to TVLine.
Prime Video ordered Tomb Raider to series back in May, but there was no word at the time on who might play Lara Croft. Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander previously played the iconic video game character on the big screen, and she was recently voiced by Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter) in Netflix’s animated series Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
Fleabag auteur Phoebe Waller-Bridge is shepherding the Tomb Raider series, which will follow the adventures of the central archaeologist and adventurer.
“If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode,” Waller-Bridge said in a statement when the series was greenlit. “Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators. Lara Croft means a lot to me, as she does to many, and I can’t wait to go on this adventure. Bats ‘n all.”
Amazon MGM Studios head Jennifer Salke went on to call the project an “epic, globetrotting series” that will feature “exhilarating adventures that honor the legacy of this iconic character.”
Since her eight-season run as Game of Thrones‘ Sansa Stark concluded in 2019, Turner’s TV credits have included Quibi’s Survive, Max’s The Staircase and, most recently, The CW’s limited series Joan.
