Tom Cruise's ex Mimi Rogers speaks about his split

Tom Cruise's first wife Mimi Rogers has spoken up about her ex-husband's recent split from Katie Holmes.

Rogers, 56, opened up to Us Weekly at the New York City premiere of her new film Hope Springs on Monday night.

She said of Cruise's separation from his third wife, 33-year-old Katie Holmes:

"I wish them both the best. There's not much else to say. I really do, though. I wish them the best."

Rogers wed Cruise, six years her junior at 24 years old, in 1987.

They were married for three years before they divorced in 1990. She famously joked in an interview with Playboy in 1993:

"Tom was seriously thinking of becoming a monk... And he thought he had to be celibate to maintain the purity of his instrument."

The actress, who has been married to producer Chris Ciaffa since 2003, also shared her thoughts on marriage.

She explained: "I think marriage is hard work no matter what. I think it's about first and foremost being great friends."
